William A. "Bill" Mikell, Sr.
Passed away on October 18, 2018
William A. “Bill” Mikell, Sr., 82, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. He was born in Macclenny, FL, son of Leonard J. and Emma Beatrice Stokes Mikell. He was a graduate of Macclenny-Glen High School where he excelled in football and track. He married his high school sweetheart, Selene Padgett in December 1955. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he trained to became an air traffic controller. Out of the service, he continued a career in aviation as an air traffic controller having assignments in Jacksonville, FL; Moody Air Force Base and ultimately retiring as Assistant Chief at the Savannah Airport. While in Valdosta, Mr. Mikell was a charter member of Greenwood Baptist Church and a Mason in Savannah.
Surviving are his wife of 62 ½ years, Selene Padgett Mikell of Savannah, GA; children, William A. “Al” Mikell, Jr., Tamra Mikell, Karen Arpin, Mona Mikell all of Savannah, GA; sisters, Betty Eddins of Millers Creek, NC; Sue Mikell of Orange Park, FL; grandchildren, Matthew Mikell of Savannah; Dana Arpin Larson (Jason) of Okinawa, Japan; Ashley Bennett of Valdosta, GA; Michelle Mikell of Richmond Hill, GA; great grandchildren, Nolan, Marci, Clara and Georgia Bennett of Valdosta, GA; Brayden Lee Larson of Okinawa, Japan, two special family friends, Sandy Fitzer and Sara Portman of Savannah, GA.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
The funeral service will be held in Macclenny, Florida with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
